Temperatures soared at this week’s sale, resulting in a dramatic increase in the yarding as over 9500 head of cattle were penned. This represented an increase of over 5900 from the previous week, which had been impacted by rain.
Market Insights
The cattle market remained robust, with regular buyers including lot feeders and backgrounders actively competing for quality pens sourced from across various regions. Supply areas included the Maranoa district, with locations like Injune, Muckadilla, Roma, Surat, and Wallumbilla well represented, alongside western regions such as Augathella and Longreach.

Twatty Past Co successfully sold steers for an impressive 571c/kg, averaging 297kg per head and fetching around $1,697 each. Operating out of ‘Como’ in Quilpie, they also boasted a pen of Charbray cross steers that sold for 522c/kg, averaging 427kg for a return of $2,228 each.

Champion Livestock Co, based at ‘Longway Station’ in Longreach, sold its Santa Gertrudis steers for 618c/kg, weighing an average of 245kg, giving a total return of $1,513 each.
M & M.T. Bright’s steers.
M & M.T. Bright’s of ‘Karoola Park’, Surat, saw a lively response for their Angus cross steers, achieving 523c/kg for an average weight of 412kg and a return of $2,153. Another pen of Angus cross steers reached 526c/kg, while a third fetched 514c/kg for weights around 440kg.

Figures increased to 9556 head at the Roma Sale, with all regular buyers in attendance. An exceptional range of quality cattle was offered not only from local sources but also from Western NSW. Market conditions were solid to slightly higher for younger cattle, while grown steers, bullocks, and cows displayed a mixed price trend.
