The event took place at the Scientific Dissemination Hall of the Peninsula State University of Santa Elena (UPSE), featuring 11 technical sessions led by both national and international experts from renowned institutions such as Biogemar, INVE Aquaculture, and BioMar. These sessions explored critical areas affecting hatchery operations, including:
- Water quality management
- Biosecurity measures
- Disease control strategies
- Larval nutrition improvements
- Predictive genetics advancements
- Postlarvae evaluation technologies
- National sanitary guidelines
- Continuous improvement programs
- Financing opportunities for the sector
Insights from Industry Leaders
SSP Director Pamela Nath emphasized the crucial role of shrimp hatcheries in the production chain, stating, “Shrimp hatcheries are the starting point of the production chain and the foundation that determines the quality and performance of the farming process. In the face of climate variability, it is essential to strengthen hatcheries’ capacity to adapt and innovate.”
Echoing this sentiment, CNA Executive President José Antonio Camposano remarked, “The sustainable development of the shrimp industry depends on our collective ability to improve processes, incorporate new knowledge, and anticipate change. Strengthening hatcheries not only elevates production quality but also reinforces the country’s competitiveness.”
A Platform for Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing
SustainED provided a unique platform for education and networking among producers, researchers, technicians, and suppliers. This edition of SustainED was proudly supported by LarvaCare (a Naltech brand), Prilabsa, and VITAPRO, all dedicated to fostering a more competitive and responsible aquaculture sector in Ecuador through education.
