TARS 2025 Unveils Speaker Line-up to Enhance Precision, Productivity, and Profitability in Shrimp Aquaculture
The Aquaculture Roundtable Series® (TARS) 2025 will delve into key themes of precision farming, productivity, and profitability within the shrimp aquaculture sector. Scheduled for August 20-21, 2025, in Chiang Mai, Thailand, this pivotal event promises to offer enriching insights from industry experts.
The Current Landscape of Demand and Supply
“At each TARS, we assess industry challenges. This year, we will provide updates on shrimp supply from Asia and Latin America, as well as demand insights from China, a leading market,” stated Zuridah Merican, Chair of TARS 2025. “With current oversupply and low prices threatening the sustainability of many farms in Asia due to production costs and disease, some have managed to sustain success.”
On the first day, Robins McIntosh from Charoen Pokphand Foods will be discussing Asian supply trends and the challenges that producers face. He will analyze whether the traditional Asian intensive shrimp farming model, once dominant globally, is currently misapplied. Ding Changwei of Hong Kong Fisheries Holdings Limited will explore China’s shifting food service demands and the rise of online retail, which has nearly captured a 60% market share. He emphasizes the importance of branding and product recognition amid fluctuating consumer confidence. Furthermore, Pablo Montalbetti GT from Vitapro-Alicorp will present Ecuador’s adaptable model in response to market changes, offering a SWOT analysis of rising shrimp production in other Latin American countries.
TARS will also showcase an innovative transformation by Thai farmers Yanisa Klomsuwan and Khemika Klomsuwan, who are revolutionizing their father’s farming operations in Krabi, shifting from conventional methods to a data-driven approach aimed at reducing grow-out cycles and enhancing yield.
The Importance of Precision Shrimp Aquaculture

- Future Proofing Shrimp Aquaculture: Ensures sustainability and preparedness for evolving market demands.
- Technology and Innovations: Discusses the adoption of technologies to elevate efficiency and productivity.
The Pondside Chat will feature dynamic discussions among next-generation farmers from Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, India, and the Philippines, focusing on the industry’s future.
