New Price Assessments Launched for Chilean Salmon Exports to Brazil
Undercurrent News has officially unveiled its latest price assessments targeting Chile’s salmon exports to Brazil, a thriving trade sector valued at over $800 million annually.
Market Benchmarking for Fresh Salmon
As of Monday, November 3, the assessments are now live, providing a vital market benchmark for fresh salmon prices in one of the world’s most significant salmon import markets. The focus of this new assessment is fresh head-on gutted Atlantic salmon shipments originating from Chile, with Puerto Montt serving as the primary reference point for factory-price evaluations.

This account grants exclusive access to all of Undercurrent‘s extensive pricing platform, which includes proprietary assessments covering farmed salmon, crab, shrimp, scallops, various groundfish/whitefish, live and frozen lobster, and octopus, with more categories coming soon.
Weekly Assessments from Chile
The price assessments are conducted by Undercurrent every Monday, reflecting spot market transactions between Chilean salmon farmers or processors and first receivers in Brazil. These assessments are noted before accounting for freight and logistics costs.
Production and Pricing Details
While Puerto Montt is acknowledged as the central hub for both processing and exporting salmon, production may also take place in other regions, such as Aysen and Punta Arenas. Pricing is normalized to represent equivalent free on board levels at the origin, ensuring consistency across transactions. Although fish sizes are indicated in pounds, the prices are reported in kilograms, aligning with commercial practices in Brazil.
Broader Scope of Global Salmon Coverage
The recently launched Brazil-Chile assessments augment UCN‘s global salmon coverage, which already comprises wholesale price assessments for Chilean and other origins of Atlantic salmon in the United States, as well as wholesale prices for salmon in China.
Impact on the South American Salmon Trade
This new assessment initiative aims to foster transparency, consistency, and confidence within the South American salmon trade, a sector that continues to expand in response to rising consumer demand in Brazil.
