Current Market Overview

The ongoing sell-off due to the extreme dry conditions has resulted in a
total of 8,680 head being yarded, falling short of the anticipated 10,000.
A diverse group of buyers participated, largely focused on restocker and feedlot orders from the north.
Price Trends and Observations
Young weaners saw a noticeable price correction, with rates declining by
20c to 37c/kg. Light weight steers, ranging from 280-330kg, averaged
$1,098 each, while heifers fetched around $907/head. Many of the
weaners were headed to destinations such as Dubbo, Narrabri, Coonamble, and Longreach.
Feeder Market Insights
In the feeder market, light weight steers experienced an 8c dip, trading at
310 to 414c/kg. However, medium weights gained traction as buyers competed for
weight, with prices fluctuating between 310 to 441c/kg.
The available heifers were limited, yielding prices from 310c to 390c/kg.
Fluctuations in feeder heifer prices were observed due to varying breeds and fat cover,
with medium weights being sold from 310-380c/kg and lighter weights dipping by 19c,
fetching between 260c to 365c/kg.
Heavy Cattle Transactions
Heavy heifers with a good finish, destined for processors, sold between
330 to 392c/kg, while steers and bullocks traded mildly between 285 to 380c/kg.
A total of 2,280 cows were offered, covering all weight ranges and grades.
Heavy cows faced subdued demand, particularly from Victoria, leading to a
17c price drop, with the majority selling from 264-286c/kg.
Leaner cows under 520kg were more supported by restocker interest,
priced between 200 to 269c/kg. Additionally, a substantial number of younger
cows were sold to restockers, including several large pens of EU accredited cattle,
with prices spanning from 160 to 322c/kg.
