Significant Upgrades Announced for Australia’s Largest Saleyards

In a significant move for the agricultural sector, Australia’s largest saleyards are poised to receive a $4.2 million upgrade. The Maranoa Regional Council has announced plans to improve essential infrastructure, including ramps, walkways, fences, footpaths, and the truck wash.

Details of the Upgrades

The upgrades will focus on enhancing both safety and efficiency at the saleyards:

• Ramp Replacement: The project will upgrade the loading ramps on the Primaries Road extension, enhancing safety and efficiency for transporters, staff, and cattle. By redesigning these ramps, the saleyards will accommodate more trucks simultaneously, reducing wait times and improving the flow of cattle.
• Walkway Improvements: New, wider walkways will provide compliant and safer access for agents, buyers, and contractors to view and manage the cattle.
• General Freight Hardstand: The current gravel surface at the Roma Truck Stop Precinct will be asphalted to improve conditions for transport operations and reduce dust and mud issues.
• Site Fencing: Upgrading fencing will ensure the security of cattle at the facility, making it a safer environment for all stakeholders.
• Footpath Extension: A new footpath will be added to improve access from the lower car park, enhancing visitor experience at the site.

Mayor Wendy Taylor emphasized the importance of these investments, stating that they are crucial for maintaining the saleyards as a thriving commercial hub.

“It’s important to invest in this vital regional asset to continue to develop it as a self-sustaining commercial operation,” Cr Taylor noted. “This facility isn’t just integral to our local agricultural economy, it’s central to our tourism economy too.”
