Weekly Update: Roma Saleyards Trade Report

This week’s Tuesday sale at Roma Saleyards saw just shy of 8,000 head of cattle offloaded amidst cool mornings and soaring prices.
Prices remained stable across the market, bolstered by strong competition from buyers amid a mixed-quality yarding and continuously high demand for cattle.
All regular processors, feedlotters, and backgrounders actively participated in bidding, confirming Roma Saleyards’ status as the market of choice.
Cattle were primarily sourced from the local districts of Roma, Wallumbilla, and Mitchell, as well as nearby New South Wales.
The Booth family from Wandoan successfully sold a quality run of Charolais cross steers, averaging 495c/kg at 348kg, bringing in $1,722 each. Notably, two pens fetched a high of 524c/kg at 296kg, returning $1,552 each.

The line was consigned through GDL Roma.
Furthermore, Whyenbah from St George offloaded a run of Santa Gertrudis cross steers, averaging 472c/kg at 486kg for an impressive $2,298 each.
Three additional pens reached 482c/kg at 471kg, netting $2,275 each, while another pen made 470c/kg at 499kg, securing $2,346 each.

Roma agents recorded 7,703 head. All regular buyers, including processors, feedlotters, and backgrounders, were present, with cattle drawn from both NSW and the local supply district. The yarding exemplified mixed quality, yet most categories experienced solid market performance.
Yearling steers under 200kg peaked at 544c/kg, while those weighing 200 to 280kg ranged from 300c to 558c/kg. Steers in the 280 to 330kg category averaged 483c/kg, showcasing a robust market trend.
Yearling heifers under 200kg made it to 394c/kg, with higher averages for weights in the 200 to 500kg range, indicating a clear upward trend.
The grown steer sector showed competitive pricing as well, with 400 to 500kg steers reaching 480c/kg, while cows also exhibited firm to slightly elevated prices, especially in the score 3 category.

Weaner steers under 200kg topped at 544c/kg, averaging 488c/kg. Values also soared in other weight categories, showcasing a healthy market climate for both buyers and sellers.
