Ahold Delhaize USA to Invest $860 Million in New Distribution Center
Ahold Delhaize USA’s distribution and transportation divisions, ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation, have unveiled plans to construct an impressive $860 million distribution center in Burlington, North Carolina. This state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance the supply chain for the company’s East Coast brands, particularly benefiting Food Lion.
Construction Timeline and Facility Details
Construction of the new distribution center is slated to commence in 2026, with operations expected to kick off by 2029. Once complete, the facility will feature over 1 million square feet dedicated to distributing fresh and frozen grocery products. The project is projected to create more than 500 job opportunities in the local area.

“This investment into our facility is fundamentally an investment in the customers who rely on our brands to nourish their families,” expressed Ahold Delhaize USA CEO JJ Fleeman.
Fleeman reiterated the significance of this new distribution center in supporting Food Lion’s growth within North Carolina: “We’re thrilled to locate this facility in a state where we’ve been operational for over 65 years, and we look forward to enhancing our community presence.”

Sanja Krajnovic, Chief Supply Chain Officer and Executive Vice President of ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation, emphasized their commitment to being an employer of choice while delivering outstanding service. “We thank the city of Burlington, Guilford County, and the State of North Carolina for their collaboration on this endeavor,” Krajnovic stated. “We eagerly anticipate breaking ground soon and welcoming new associates as we approach the facility’s opening.”
Expanding Ahold Delhaize’s Influence
Ahold Delhaize USA encompasses five significant grocery retail brands, making it one of the largest retail groups on the East Coast. The company has consistently showcased growth, evidenced by Food Lion’s remarkable achievement of over 50 consecutive quarters of sales growth. Additionally, ADUSA Distribution and ADUSA Transportation boast one of the largest fleets on the East Coast, with over 8,000 assets collectively covering approximately 125 million miles annually.
Current Distribution Operations
Aside from the new Burlington facility, ADUSA operates three other distribution centers located in Butner, Dunn, and Salisbury, underscoring its commitment to optimizing its distribution network in North Carolina.
