Date: December 11
The Sea-Fisheries Protection Authority (SFPA) is set to conduct an informative online briefing aimed at industry professionals within the shellfish sector. This session will spotlight the key elements of the freshly revised Code of Practice for the Classification and Microbiological Monitoring of Bivalve Mollusc Production Areas in Ireland.
This briefing is part of a broader Seafood Safety Workshop, co-sponsored by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) and SFPA. The workshop will delve into essential topics such as shellfish safety protocols, sanitary surveys, and biotoxin monitoring, providing critical knowledge for professionals within the seafood industry.

The SFPA’s revised Code of Practice emerges from an extensive review process, incorporating insights gathered through consultations with various stakeholders. These include the Irish Farmer’s Association (IFA) Aquaculture, the FSAI, Marine Institute, Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), and the Bivalve Working Group. This collaborative effort ensures that the updated guidelines reflect the most current practices in bivalve mollusc production.
