Kenya’s Ambitious Mariculture Facility Set to Transform Coastal Communities

Kenya is on the verge of a significant advancement in aquaculture with the construction of a KES 1.88 billion ($14.5 million) mariculture facility in Kwale County. This facility is poised to become the largest of its kind in East Africa, with the capacity to produce up to five million marine larvae annually, according to a report by Standard Media.

The National Mariculture Resource and Training Centre

This innovative project, known as the National Mariculture Resource and Training Centre, is a collaborative effort between the Kenyan government and the World Bank. The facility will not only feature a hatchery for producing vital resources such as seaweed, mangroves, and a variety of marine species, but it will also include a comprehensive research laboratory and a training center.
