Wagga Saleyard Market Update
Market Overview
Yarding: 4555 Change: -2240
Recent rains have significantly impacted cattle numbers at the Wagga Saleyards, leading to a notable decline this week. Most cattle presented were in store condition, though there were some well-finished trade and export animals, many of which had received grain assistance.
Price Trends
Enthusiastic demand from northern region restockers, as well as local buyers, helped lift prices despite many buyers being inactive today. The surge was particularly evident in lighter cattle under 300kg.
Cattle in the 400-500 kg range were limited, with steers and heifers to trade selling between 356 to 412c/kg. The lighter cattle segment under 300kg showed impressive price increases, gaining between 50c to 96c/kg driven by eager restockers aiming to acquire these weights.
Feeder Market Insights
The supply of steers in the feeder market was constrained, resulting in a price rise of 24c/kg, with prices reaching between 355c to 439c/kg. Similarly, lighter weight feeders also made solid gains, selling at prices from 350c to 422c/kg. Overall, feeder availability decreased, contributing to a price lift of 20c to 49c/kg, while medium weights sold at 332c to 390c/kg.
Export Market Status
The export market faced challenges, lacking supplies of heavy steers and bullocks to meet processor requirements. However, prices for available stock increased by 20c to 50c, with sales recorded at 355c to 424c/kg.
Cow Market Performance
One of the highlights of the market was the ongoing rise in cow prices as sales progressed. Heavy cows gained 44c, fetching between 290c to 338c/kg, while leaner cows were sold at 240c to 303c/kg. Store cows experienced prices ranging from 258c to 306c/kg.
