Cargill (EWOS) Canada and Mowi Feed Achieve ASC Feed Certification
Cargill (EWOS) Canada and Mowi Feed have ended the year on a high note by obtaining ASC Feed Certification. The Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) has seen a surge in the adoption of its feed certification program in 2024, with both companies demonstrating their commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility in their feed operations.
Cargill (EWOS) Canada has become the first ASC certified feed company in Canada. Based in Surrey, British Columbia, their feed mill produces feed for various species, including trout, salmon, seabass, seabream, meagre, seriola, cobia, and tilapia. This certification marks a significant milestone in providing responsible feed to farms in North America and the Pacific Rim.
Mowi Feed has also achieved ASC feed certification for its facilities in Scotland and Norway. With operations in Kyleakin, Scotland, and Valsneset, Norway, their feed mills produce high-quality feed for salmon. These certifications represent a step forward in promoting responsible salmon farming in the UK and Norway.
The ASC’s efforts to drive transformation in farmed seafood through expertise, innovation, and collaboration with the supply chain have been further bolstered by the recent certifications. The ASC Feed Standard is instrumental in advancing the industry towards greater environmental and social responsibility.
With 16 Units of Certification in the ASC Feed programme across multiple countries, including Canada, Chile, Ecuador, and Thailand, the global uptake of ASC feed certification is evident.
A diverse mix of multinational and regional companies have embraced ASC Feed certification, showcasing its accessibility and achievability. As more feed companies undergo the initial audit phase, 2025 is poised to be another successful year for ASC Feed Certification uptake.
ASC certified farms have until October 31, 2025, to transition to ASC-conforming feed. This adherence is crucial for farms to maintain their ASC Farm Standard certification.
