Dalby Cattle Market Report: A Shift in Supply and Demand

A recent report indicates a decrease in the number of cattle penned at Dalby, with a total count dropping by 203 heads to 6049. The supply of cows also saw a reduction, down to 1055. Buyer attendance remains strong, with all buyers active in the market. Notably, restockers have shown increasing interest in light-weight classes of yearling steers and heifers, resulting in a slight improvement for good heavy-weight cows.
Light-weight yearling steers returning to the paddock topped at 606c, with a good sample averaging from 523c to 543c/kg. Yearling steers destined for the domestic market averaged between 432c and 499c, with some sales reaching up to 544c/kg. Meanwhile, heavy weight yearling steers fed made it to 490c, averaging 440c to 450c/kg.
The market for heavy grown steers to export processors averaged 417c, with occasional sales hitting 449c. The bullock portion is on par, averaging 404c/kg, while heavy grown heifers reached 428c/kg. Medium-weight 2 score cows averaged 337c, peaking at 345c/kg, while heavy-weight 3 score cows averaged 363c and topped out at 393c/kg. Heavy-weight bulls to processors fetched prices up to 399c, with one outstanding bull achieving 408c/kg.
