Market Overview
This week’s cattle sales at Dubbo Saleyards recorded a yarding of 3,260 head, a decrease of 560 from the previous sale. Benefiting from recent rainfall, the quality of stock was fair to good, featuring a significant number of young cattle suitable for both feeders and processors, as well as a solid representation of top-quality cows.
Highlights from the Sale
Cows reached a new remarkable price, selling at 360c/kg, marking a significant milestone. The young cattle to the trade saw price increases, with prime vealers and yearlings selling between 320c and 440c/kg. In the feeder sector, steers and heifers garnered higher prices, 7c to 12c dearer than previous weeks, with feeder steers priced from 345c to 471c and heifers fetching between 310c to 408c/kg.
Trends in Young and Grown Cattle
Young steers to restockers sold up to an impressive 462c, while the young restocker heifers sold for as high as 380c/kg. Grown steers experienced a slight decline of 3c, whereas grown heifers saw a price rise of 5c to 8c, with prime grown steers priced from 370c to 426c and grown heifers from 340c to 414c/kg.
Prime heavyweight cows surged by as much as 28c, while secondary cows gained 14c/kg, positioning 2 and 3 score cows between 245c to 312c/kg. Prime heavyweight cows averaged 341c/kg, selling between 300c and 360c. Notably, cows earmarked for restockers sold between 180c and 293c/kg, while heavy bulls experienced a price increase of 6c, reaching up to 348c/kg.
