Kansas City Reports 2025 U.S. Corn and Soybean Crop Estimates
Kansas City, MO., (Aug. 22, 2025) — Today, Pro Farmer, a prominent division of Farm Journal, unveiled its highly awaited national production estimates for the 2025 U.S. corn and soybean crops. This announcement follows a thorough analysis of data gathered from the 33rd Annual Pro Farmer Crop Tour and other influential sources.
The Pro Farmer estimates stem from meticulous Crop Tour data and observations collected over the past week, highlighting the dedicated effort of scouts who surveyed thousands of fields across seven key Midwestern states. Key factors including plant maturity, health, historical data, and reviews from beyond the sampled areas were incorporated into these estimates.
Corn Production Insights
Corn: According to Pro Farmer, the 2025 U.S. corn crop is projected to reach 16.204 billion bushels, reflecting an average yield of 182.7 bushels per acre. This figure is a decrease from USDA’s August estimate, which stood at 188.8 bushels per acre.
Chip Flory, the host of “AgriTalk” and leader of the western Crop Tour, commented, “It’s a good corn crop and a good bean crop this year. Neither crop is without risk between now and the end of kernel and pod fill due to a disease-prone environment, but both crops have made significant progress towards achieving strong yields.”
Soybean Production Insights
Soybeans: The Pro Farmer estimate for the 2025 U.S. soybean crop stands at 4.246 billion bushels, with a national average yield of 53 pounds per acre; slightly down from the USDA estimate of 53.6 pounds per acre in August.
Lane Akre, the eastern tour leader and economist for Pro Farmer, noted, “As our Crop Tour route advanced westward, the evidence of disease pressure in soybeans became increasingly apparent. We observed a significant rise in sudden death symptoms the farther west we traveled. However, it is crucial to note that we are not witnessing a bad crop; beans do require some moisture to maximize the potential presented by the abundant number of pods.”
