French agricultural cooperative Maïsadour is enhancing its commitment to a sustainable and profitable poultry sector, grounded in local territories. The Cooperative is spearheading a plan aimed at revolutionizing livestock housing and supporting a new generation of farmers.
Addressing the Rising Demand for Poultry
In response to escalating poultry consumption and societal expectations, Maïsadour is launching a comprehensive poultry development strategy. This initiative is designed to meet immediate production demands, particularly supplying the processing facilities of Fermiers du Sud-Ouest, while fostering the long-term rejuvenation of the sector.
Key elements of this development plan include the construction of 150 new ‘Liberté’ huts for 450,000 poultry, 15 standard buildings by 2029 to accommodate 3 million chickens, and 50 open-air facilities for an additional 700,000 poultry.
Patrick Faget, the director of the Livestock Branch, stated: “This initiative embodies our commitment to effectively support our farmers while laying a foundation for the sector’s sustainable future.”
Empowering Poultry Farmers
In addition to infrastructure investments, Maïsadour is offering robust financial support aimed at easing the establishment and diversification of poultry farmers. This includes a fixed installation bonus from the construction phase, an additional price throughout the amortization period, and personalized technical assistance. Poultry suppliers will benefit from a secure contractual framework through Fermiers du Sud-Ouest, ensuring market access.
A particular emphasis is placed on farm succession, with organized training sessions for youth and support mechanisms for outgoing farmers. Alexandre Lafaille, poultry production development manager, noted: “We are now equipped to assist new farmers under optimal conditions, representing a tremendous opportunity for young individuals looking to establish or diversify their farms.”
Michaël Dolet-Fayet, president of the poultry sector at Maïsadour and Fermiers du Sud-Ouest, remarked: “Raising poultry transcends mere agricultural practice—it’s a profession rooted in passion, rigor, and mentorship. This plan invites producers to engage with a recognized, ambitious sector that is deeply integrated into its community. Our Cooperative uniquely manages every stage of poultry production, from hatching to marketing, which enhances cost efficiency and value sharing. For consumers, this represents a commitment to consistent traceability and quality—attributes we take pride in.”
