Dubbo Cattle Sale Update

The ongoing dry conditions in the far west have led to increased numbers at the Dubbo cattle sales, with total yarding reaching 5,950 after a rise of 1,120 head. This week’s sale featured a diverse mix, including a significant volume of cows accompanied by their weaner calves as the sell-off trend persists in the region. Additionally, there were ample offerings of prime cattle across all categories, along with robust runs of young cattle appealing to feeders.

In the trade, young cattle prices held firm, with prime vealers and yearlings selling between 380c to 430c/kg. Feeders experienced an upward trend, with feeder steers increasing by 13c. Meanwhile, feeder heifers saw a price rise of 4c to 8c/kg. Feeder steers were traded at 345c to 487c and feeder heifers at 290c to 424c/kg. The market for young cattle sold to restockers remained stable, with young steers reaching up to 465c and young restocker heifers going for as much as 376c/kg.
Grown steers faced a decrease in quality, selling for 6c to 10c less. Conversely, grown heifers appreciated by 4c/kg. Prime grown steers found a market between 340c to 420c, while prime grown heifers fetched 345c to 408c/kg. Cows saw an increase of 8c to 12c, with two and three scores selling from 180c to 328c/kg. Prime heavy-weight cows sold between 306c and 365c, averaging 350c/kg. Additionally, very plain light cows were available to restockers starting around 160c/kg. Notably, bulls gained traction, selling up to 358c/kg.
