2026: The Rise of the Female Farmer, According to Whole Foods
As Shania Twain would say, “Let’s go, girls.”
Whole Foods has released its trend predictions for 2026, proclaiming it will be the “year of the female farmer.” This declaration encompasses not only traditional farming but also highlights women’s significant roles in both wild and farmed seafood.
The Focus on Female Changemakers
In light of the decline of multigenerational farms and the diminishing number of young people entering agriculture, Whole Foods emphasizes the pressing need to spotlight women who are making impactful changes within the industry. The retailer, based in Austin, Texas and owned by Amazon, noted that consumers are increasingly aware of the rising presence of women in agriculture, as showcased in media, event panels, and on brand websites and packaging.
Spotlighted Seafood Companies
Among the companies featured in Whole Foods’ prediction are:
- Fable Fish Co.
- Kvaroy Arctic
About Fable Fish Co.

Founded by Meghan Luck, a third-generation Alaskan fisher, the company was chosen from a pool of over 1,600 applications to complete an intensive 14-week program. Following its successful completion, Fable Fish’s salmon jerky has now made its way to Whole Foods’ shelves.
Kvaroy Arctic: A Commitment to Women in Aquaculture
