Australia’s Agricultural Sector Surprises with $100 Billion Forecast
Australia’s agricultural industry is set to surpass an impressive $100 billion in farm gate production value this financial year, achieving this milestone four years ahead of the National Farmers Federation’s (NFF) 2030 target established back in 2018.
Recent forecasts from the Australian Bureau of Agricultural Resources Economics and Sciences (ABARES) highlight a record production value of $101.4 billion in 2025-26, expanding to $107 billion when combined with fisheries and forestry.
With an expected exportation value of nearly $85 billion for agriculture, fisheries, and forestry by 2025-26, there is unparalleled demand for Australia’s high-quality food and fiber products.
A Testament to Farmer Resilience
This remarkable achievement underscores the hard work and resilience of Australian farmers who have navigated numerous challenges.
The 2030 Roadmap
In 2018, the NFF unveiled its 2030 Roadmap, outlining a vision for Australia’s agricultural sector to evolve into a $100 billion industry, then valued at approximately $88 billion in 2022. Since its introduction, the production value has surged by 15%, demonstrating the sector’s capacity for growth and innovation.
Exports have also expanded, reaching around 190 markets, the most diversified in Australia’s history. This progress aligns with the positive outlook presented by ABARES, building on strong advocacy from the NFF for robust long-term outcomes for the agriculture sector.

Hamish McIntyre, National Farmers Federation President.
National Farmers Federation President Hamish McIntyre called this a momentous occasion for Australian agriculture. “In 2018, we viewed $100 billion as an ambitious target. Today, we are on track to exceed it ahead of schedule, demonstrating the support and growth potential of our industry,” he commented.
Mr. McIntyre emphasized that this achievement was not merely about reaching a number but was based on a comprehensive roadmap enhancing farmer well-being, sustainability, and productivity.
Government Support and Industry Commitment
Federal Agriculture Minister Julie Collins echoed these sentiments, stating that the ABARES forecast provides Australians with 100 billion reasons to appreciate their farmers’ hard work and dedication.
“As we celebrate this significant milestone, our government remains committed to supporting our farmers and producers, especially during challenging times,” she noted.
Assistant Agriculture Minister Sen Anthony Chisholm added, “The remarkable outlook reveals the resilience of our agricultural workforce. Agriculture influences us all, and our government recognizes this, remaining devoted to expanding the sector and empowering farmers.”
