James Macsween Appointed as Chair of Food and Drink Federation Scotland
Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Scotland is delighted to announce the appointment of James Macsween as its new Chair and Katherine Durie as its Vice Chair. James Macsween, the Managing Director at Macsween of Edinburgh, succeeds Jim Fox, bringing a wealth of experience to the role. Katherine Durie, European Legal Counsel at Baxters Food Group, steps into the position of Vice Chair.
James Macsween has set out his priorities as the new Chair of FDF Scotland, focusing on supporting the growth of Scotland’s food and drink manufacturing industry. With challenges such as changes in Minimum Wage and National Insurance costs impacting businesses’ ability to invest and grow, Macsween emphasizes the importance of policies that do not add further costs to already stretched companies.
Key Priorities for FDF Scotland
- Collaborate with other UK nations to develop consistent food and drink regulations to minimize costs and complexity for businesses and consumers.
- Create a ring-fenced fund for the industry to de-risk innovation around de-carbonization.
- Support the development of a national food and drink net zero transition plan.
- Transform packaging recycling and reprocessing systems to a world-class standard.
- Implement actions to address the industry’s skills needs.
- Work with Westminster on the Growth and Skills Levy to enhance training and productivity growth.
- Continue supporting the Reformulation for Health Programme to promote healthier food options.
- Increase support for food safety initiatives, particularly in redesigning the food law delivery framework.
James Macsween, FDF Scotland’s Chair, expressed his commitment: “I am honored to lead FDF Scotland at this crucial time for our industry. Together, we can build a stronger, more resilient sector that delivers high-quality food and drink.”
Katherine Durie, FDF Scotland’s Vice Chair, added: “I am excited to support the growth and success of Scotland’s food and drink industry in my new role.”
David Thomson, FDF Scotland’s Chief Executive Officer, emphasized: “Our members are vital to local communities, providing jobs and great food. We are dedicated to working with stakeholders to create an environment where businesses can thrive.”
