Food Lion Feeds Gala Apple Bag Campaign Delivers Major Impact Against Hunger

Food Lion Feeds has once again demonstrated its commitment to combating food insecurity through its annual Gala Apple Bag campaign, providing an impressive 13.8 million meals to families in need.

A Record Year for Generosity

This year’s total marks the campaign’s second-highest number of meals provided since its inception in 2014, reflecting the overwhelming support from customers who participated between September 17 and October 7. Shoppers contributed by purchasing specially-marked bags of Gala apples or making cash donations at the register.

Benefiting Hunger-Relief Organizations

Funds generated through the campaign benefit various hunger-relief organizations that receive grants from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Food Lion. Each year, the foundation awards over $1 million in grants to community partners devoted to feeding those in need.

Long-term Impact

Since its launch, the Gala Apple Bag campaign has helped generate the equivalent of more than 57 million meals, a testament to the community’s collective effort to combat hunger.

The foundation awards grants twice annually, benefiting over 500 local feeding partners and supporting capital campaign gifts to food banks, which also provide health education and job skills training.
