2026 Australia Day Awards Recognize Contributions to Agriculture

Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in the General Division
Among the distinguished recipients is the late Leith Boully, recognized for her significant contributions to conservation and the environment. A respected leader in water governance, her career included senior positions across multiple major water, conservation, and agricultural policy bodies, such as Sunwater Ltd and the Murray Darling Basin Ministerial Council. The Leith Boully Award was established in her honor in 2023.
Also awarded is Geoffrey Ashton-Jones, former Senior Vice President of the Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association, noted for his enduring service to the environment, primary industry, and the community.
Graham Spencer-Laitt, founder of Milne AgriGroup, recognized for his significant philanthropic governance and community service in Western Australia.
Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the General Division
Western Australian grain grower Rodney Birch, owner and managing director of Catalina Farms, is honored for his contributions to the grains industry, having served as chair of Pulse Western Australia and deputy chair of Grain Growers.

John Griffith, former managing director and CEO of the Australian Agricultural Company, has also been awarded for his service to primary industry and significant contributions to agricultural technology, including his role in establishing the AuctionsPlus marketing system.
Agricultural consultant and Merino stud breeder Graham Peart is recognized for his service to the wool industry, having served in crucial roles, including as a director of Wool International.

Lastly, Kathleen Lovelock, a prominent stud cattle breeder and former Cattle Council of Australia representative, has been noted for her extensive service to the beef cattle industry and her significant contributions to agricultural governance.
