UK Seafood Businesses Invited to Meet Major International Buyers
New opportunities in developing markets highlighted by Seafish and Department for Business and Trade.
Explore New Markets
UK seafood businesses are being invited to discover market opportunities in South Korea and Vietnam through a series of four dedicated ‘meet the buyer’ events.
Growing Demand for Quality Seafood
Both countries are experiencing a substantial rise in demand for high-quality imported fish and shellfish. With supportive trade agreements in place between the UK and these nations, the potential for UK seafood export businesses is more promising than ever.
Partnerships to Enhance Trade
To showcase these lucrative opportunities, the Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Seafish, the public body that supports the UK seafood industry, are collaborating to host visits from seafood importing companies in Vietnam and South Korea.
Representatives from seafood companies in Thailand and Australia will also be on-site to discuss export potential in their respective markets.
Direct Engagement with Importers
The delegation will traverse four UK locations to gain insights into the UK seafood industry and, importantly, meet face-to-face with exporters to explore potential business partnerships.
Expert Insights
Andy Gray, Trade Engagement Manager at Seafish, remarked, “These ‘meet the buyer’ events provide a fantastic opportunity for UK seafood businesses to engage directly with serious buyers from growing overseas markets.”
Gray highlighted that “Vietnam and South Korea, in particular, are showing increasing demand for premium imported seafood. This inward mission allows our industry to meet with importers from Asia and build trading relationships without the cost and time commitment that is often incurred by UK companies when traveling overseas to seek new customers.”
He encourages businesses of all sizes to participate and explore what could be significant new export opportunities.
Support from DBT Representatives
DBT representatives will also be on hand to provide guidance on export support. Additionally, UK Agriculture, Food and Drink Attachés from the British Embassies in Hanoi, Vietnam, and Seoul, South Korea, will be present to offer valuable insights.
