A delegation from Wales, consisting of seafood processors and traders, recently visited Grimsby, known for its vibrant seafood industry, to explore ‘internal seafood trade’ opportunities. The group was led by Chris Parker, the Seafood Cluster Manager for Food & Drink Wales.

During their visit, the Welsh businesses spent quality time at the Grimsby Fish Market, engaging with members of the Grimsby Fish Merchant Association. A notable highlight was a breakfast hosted by Alfred Enderby Traditional Fish Smoker. Owners Toni and Patrick Salmon treated the visitors to a delightful breakfast featuring traditional smoked salmon and Geographical Indicator smoked Grimsby haddock.

Chris Parker expressed his enthusiasm about the visit, stating, “It was great for the Welsh seafood businesses to visit and network with the wider UK seafood industry; a very worthwhile opportunity which we hope to repeat in the future.”

He noted, “Internal UK seafood trade is underestimated and often goes unnoticed. Grimsby receives seafood daily from Scotland and the South West, as well as from abroad. We also dispatch our seafood products, including traditional smoked fish, all over the UK to wholesalers and food service businesses.”
