Grimsby Fish Dock Enterprises Strengthens Leadership with New Appointments
Firm focus on the future as Grimsby Fish Dock Enterprises announces double board appointment. Two new directors have been appointed to the business overseeing Grimsby’s thriving port-based industries, both traditional and emerging.
Danny Payne and Ben Walker have joined the board of Grimsby Fish Dock Enterprises Ltd, bringing over 25 years of combined experience within the organization to the executive level.
Under the leadership of Chief Executive Martyn Boyers, the company manages fish market and dock operations, sales and logistics, while actively participating in the wider port and offshore wind sectors. This includes providing slipway services, training programs, and quayside facilities.
Introducing the New Directors
Danny Payne began his journey “down dock” 17 years ago alongside his father as a lumper. He has advanced through various roles in market operations, ultimately becoming the fish market manager, and is now appointed as Operations Director.
Payne expressed his gratitude, stating, “It is a privilege to be asked to join the board of directors and to have a seat and voice at the table. I aim to help keep the business going in the right direction. Martyn and I have collaborated on many projects; we understand the necessity of continual progress.”
He added, “Being a Grimsby lad, with a family history in fishing, it’s quite an honor to be on the board of directors at GFDE.”
Ben Walker joined the company in 2013 after working in private accountancy practice in northern Lincolnshire. He was promoted to Finance Manager in 2016.
“This appointment means a lot to me; it acknowledges the hard work over the last decade,” Walker said. “We’ve taken on significant challenges, with the launch of three additional trading companies, each differing from one another, and I truly enjoy collaborating with the team.”
He emphasized his commitment to ensuring the organization’s profitability, stating, “I see the port as the biggest opportunity for growth.”
Board Composition and Future Direction
The board comprises key stakeholders from the catching, sales, and fish processing sectors, as well as representatives from local authorities, and is chaired by respected maritime lawyer Andrew Oliver.
Mr. Oliver remarked, “Appointing directors of the caliber of Ben and Danny showcases our strength and highlights Martyn Boyers’ success in nurturing talent from within. Promoting internally reflects a successful company culture, where there is clear expertise and capability to draw upon.”
