H-E-B Driver Homer Flores Achieves Unprecedented Four Million Safe Miles

In a remarkable feat of commitment and safety, Homer Flores, a truck driver for H-E-B, has achieved an astonishing milestone: driving four million miles consecutively without a single accident or traffic incident. This achievement showcases not only his driving skills but also his dedication to maintaining safety on the road.

On April 14, Flores celebrated this achievement upon completing a delivery route from Kingsville to Corpus Christi, Texas. His final tally stood at 4,000,007 safe miles, a moment marked with joy as he was welcomed by family, friends, fellow drivers, and company leaders.

Flores expressed his gratitude during the celebration, stating, “This is a big honor for me and my family. I truly love working for H-E-B – it’s a great company to be a part of. I’m honestly overwhelmed by everyone who came out to support me today. Thank you to H-E-B for giving me the opportunity to work here and to show what I can do.”

Beginning his journey with H-E-B in April 1986, Flores started at the store on Saunders Street in Laredo. He attended truck driving school in 1989 and transitioned to a spotter role in Corpus Christi before becoming a full-time driver in 1992. Throughout his career, he has handled numerous deliveries and has been instrumental in crisis situations, including natural disasters such as Hurricane Harvey and Winter Storm Uri.

“You have to admire and respect Homer’s tremendous accomplishment,” said Todd Wright, SVP of Transportation at H-E-B. “It almost seems impossible when you think about it. Day in and day out, he is hauling up to 80,000 pounds with a 53- or 57-foot trailer alongside other motorists. To do it safely over four million consecutive miles without a single scrape or broken mirror is a testament to his professionalism.”

Flores has averaged approximately 120,000 miles per year, which equates to more than 160 trips around the Earth in his three-decade career. In comparison, the average motorist drives around 13,500 miles annually—indicating that it would take the average driver almost 300 years to reach four million miles.

H-E-B established the Truck Driver Hall of Fame in 1985 to honor employees reaching one million safe miles. Flores was inducted in 2001 and joins a distinguished group, including fellow drivers like Andres Corona and Danny Guerrero Jr., both of whom have also achieved the four-million-mile milestone.
