HAV Design Unveils Innovative Live Fish Carrier for North Salmon Service

Overview: HAV Design has announced its selection as the design provider for a new live fish carrier for Norwegian aquaculture logistics operator North Salmon Service (NSS). This collaboration aims to enhance the transportation and handling of aquatic livestock in an environmentally sustainable manner.

Design Features:

The new vessel boasts an impressive fish well capacity of 5,000 cubic metres, built on the cutting-edge HAV 595 design. This versatile platform is engineered to accommodate a wide range of operational needs within the aquaculture industry.

Future-Focused Approach:

Arnt Erling Paulsen, Managing Director of North Salmon Service, emphasizes, “NSS and our customers – Nova Sea and Salten Aqua – have focused on ordering a vessel that is future-oriented and meets high demands for biosecurity and fish welfare.” He elaborates on the collaborative efforts made with HAV Design to create a flexible ship design that can adapt to alternative energy sources while simultaneously reducing fuel consumption.

Operational Capacity:

The HAV 595 is designed to support various live fish operations, including transportation and sorting. With capabilities that surpass current industry standards, it promises to set new benchmarks in biosecurity, fish welfare, cost-efficiency, and environmental performance.

Energy Efficiency:

“Our HAV 595 enables more gentle and efficient handling and transport of salmon and sea trout,” states Jan Magne Goksøyr, Vice President of Sales at HAV Design. “The hull is energy-efficient, and onboard systems are designed to minimize overall energy usage.”

Hybrid Propulsion System:

The vessel will incorporate a hybrid propulsion system that includes variable-speed generator sets, direct current distribution, and a sizeable battery pack. This advanced system aims to lower energy consumption and increase operational flexibility while paving the way for alternative energy sources. Goksøyr points out, “We’ve worked closely with North Salmon Service on this next-generation design, which can also be adapted for other owners.”

Commitment to Sustainability:

Kjetil Myren, Senior Designer at HAV Design, highlights the importance of operational knowledge in designing vessels that exceed customer expectations while reducing environmental impact. “By integrating our operational insights with advanced digital tools from HAV Ocean Lab, we can achieve that.”

Construction and Delivery:

The construction of the vessel is set to take place at Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted in Norway, with a delivery date scheduled for 2027. Goksøyr expresses optimism for this partnership, stating, “We look forward to collaborating with Fitjar Mekaniske Verksted. While this is our first project together, they have made a strong impression, and we are confident they will deliver a high-quality vessel.”
