Record Value for Norwegian Seafood Exports in 2025: Rising Prices and Increased Salmon Volume

However, the U.S. tariff hikes in April and August raised duties on Norwegian seafood to 15 percent or higher on all products, essentially creating noise and unrest in the trade.

China produced the highest export value growth in 2025, increasing by NOK 2.9 billion or 31 percent, making it Norway’s third-largest market. “China has become a growth engine for Norwegian seafood exports thanks to improved distribution and the rising demand for salmon,” Chramer noted.

Norwegian seafood exports have seen dynamic changes over the years, showing an increase from NOK 74.5 billion in 2015 to over NOK 181.5 billion in 2025.
Challenges Ahead for the Processing Industry
Even with record-setting exports, the reality for the onshore industry has been challenging due to high prices and lower availability of wild fish for processing. “The economic situation for coastal job creators is quite tough,” commented Chramer.
Impact of Currency Rates
In 2025, strengthening of the Norwegian krone against the dollar and other currencies negated potential currency benefits for exporters. “It’s critical for us to secure good market access and efficient logistics in light of these fluctuations,” Chramer added.
