UCN Proposes New Weekly Pricing for Fresh Atlantic Salmon Exports from Chile to Brazil

The global seafood price reporting agency, Undercurrent News, has announced plans to implement a weekly price reporting system for fresh Atlantic salmon exports from Chile to Brazil. This initiative seeks to extend the organization’s coverage beyond its existing markets in the United States and China.

Independent and Transparent Benchmark

The new price assessments will represent transactions between importers and first receivers in Brazil. This approach aims to provide an independent and transparent benchmark that stakeholders can rely on for decision-making.

Proposed Product Coverage

The pricing assessments will be based on spot market transactions on a free on board (FOB) Chile basis, measured in dollars per pound ($/lb). It’s important to note that the freight costs are not included in the FOB price and will be sorted by the receiver.

Product Scope and Sizing

The coverage will specifically include fresh Atlantic salmon in various sizes, categorized according to standard trade categories. The main focus will be on key sizes: 10-12 pounds, 12-14 pounds, and 14-16 pounds. The pricing assessments will reflect a FOB Chile basis at $/kg. While Chilean farmers price their salmon in kilograms, the fish sizes are generally listed in pounds for sales to Brazil.

Timing of Assessments

UCN plans to publish its weekly assessment every Monday by 12 PM EST. The assessments will reflect pricing levels for deliveries scheduled for that week.

Expanding UCN’s PRA Offering

This new service is set to bolster UCN’s existing price reporting capabilities, which already boast over 3,700 data sets across key seafood species. Recent additions to the pricing portfolio include U.S. wholesale price assessments for wild Alaskan salmon, Dungeness crab, and Chilean seabass, further enhancing the agency’s seafood price reporting offerings.
