(Washington, D.C., January 12, 2026) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has made significant leadership changes within the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS). Dr. Michael Watson, the current APHIS Administrator, will retire at the end of January after an illustrious career. Similarly, Dr. Rosemary Sifford, the Deputy Administrator for Veterinary Services and U.S. Chief Veterinary Officer, has also announced her retirement. In response, Ms. Kelly Moore will assume the role of Acting Administrator starting February 1, 2026, and Dr. Alan Huddleston will become the Acting U.S. Chief Veterinary Officer immediately. To ensure a smooth transition, Dr. Adis Dijab will maintain operational oversight of Veterinary Services.
